Karaöz Plajı
A long and very quiet shore south of Kumluca, where the mountains meet the sea. As the starting point of the walk to the Gelidonya Lighthouse, it also draws hikers.
Karaöz is a small coastal settlement east of Adrasan that you would never come across without taking the turn-off. The sand-and-shingle beach runs for kilometres and most of it stays empty even in midsummer. With no tall hotels behind it, the shore also stays visually open.
Beyond the village's small fishing shelter and a handful of family businesses there is no commercial development. The fish restaurants build their menu around the day's catch; lunch by the shore is the best break in the area. The sea is usually still, the bottom clean and the water clear.
Karaöz's second identity is as a trailhead: the Gelidonya Lighthouse stage of the Lycian Way starts here. Setting out early, reaching the lighthouse in about two hours and coming back for a swim in the afternoon is the classic day plan. Accommodation is limited to small guesthouses and campsites.
