Antiphellos Antik Tiyatrosu
A 1st-century-BC Hellenistic theatre within walking distance of the centre of Kaş. Its seating for 4,000 is largely intact, and from the upper rows the sea stretches out to the Greek island of Meis.
Antiphellos was the harbour of the ancient city of Phellos; today's Kaş town centre stands on top of it. The theatre lies about 500 metres west of the main square, an easy walk. Built in the 1st century BC and repaired after the earthquake of AD 141, it has come down to us in good condition with 26 rows of seating.
What sets it apart is the absence of a stage building: the seating opens straight onto the sea. From the upper rows the Mediterranean and the Greek island of Meis take the place of a stage. At sunset this becomes one of the favourite meeting spots in Kaş.
Other remains of the city are scattered through the centre: the Lycian sarcophagus known as the Lion Tomb above Uzun Çarşı, and rock tombs between the streets. The theatre is free and open without set hours; if you are staying in Kaş it makes a natural stop on an evening walk.
