Arykanda Antik Kenti
A Lycian city laid out on five great terraces up a mountain slope, on the Elmalı–Finike road. Its setting and views have earned it the nickname 'the Delphi of Anatolia'.
Arykanda has one of the most striking layouts in Lycia. The city is stacked on five terraces up a steep slope: baths and agora at the bottom, theatre and stadium above. That stepped arrangement leaves every building with a wide view down the valley.
The best-preserved structures are the mosaic-floored bath complex and the theatre for around 2,000. Just above the theatre, the stadium occupies a narrow shelf cut into the mountainside. Monumental tombs and vaulted structures in the necropolis show how wealthy the city became under Rome.
Arykanda sits at around 1,000 metres and stays noticeably cooler than the coast even in summer. The site is large and stepped, so a visit takes about two hours and a decent climb. Visitor numbers are low — most of the time you have the ruins almost to yourself.
